GPS Logging On The Road

Maybe you’ve noticed our little maps with all the blue dots of where we were when. It’s pretty basic, but I wanted to explain what was going on.

I use a program called “GPS Utilities” on my Samsung Blackjack II phone. That records all of the data in a format that Google Maps understands which is called KML.

After my phone records it, I upload it to the website. I modified a version of the Wordpress GeoPress plugin to add the points to any google map. After the road trip is over, I’ll release source code and a tighter integration.

If you click on the blue points, you can see what time we were where with our speed at the time. Spammer has a lead foot.
